Jim Cymbala – Preaching Jesus Only

Jim Cymbala began with a study of each sermon in the book of Acts. He shares that true joy and peace only come through Christ and the Gospel. He was troubled by one church growth guru who said when someone attends his church, “My only thought is how to get someone back the next Sunday.” Church growth will come when you peach the gospel and lead them to Jesus Christ…otherwise members will have no appetite for God!  

The gospel has nothing to do with people coming and crying, saying they are going to try and live a better life.

He continues, “The demons tremble only when you read the name Jesus, not holy, holy, holy” … “You can preach that God is Holy, but make sure that in every sermon you get to Jesus. The message is Jesus, but the method is the Holy Spirit.” 1 Corinthians 2:4 -My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power.”

Cymbala concludes, “I want the power of God with me.” “Obviously God is not with everyone equally, or Christianity would not be in decline in America.” His message is clear, the thirst for God is quenched only through Jesus, the Holy Spirit adds the power necessary to live life for God and offer Jesus to others.
