Ed Stetzer – When a pastor should NOT share the Gospel

Ed Stetzer in his message to REFUEL 2014 warns, “When you stop doing for people what God has called them to do, they are going to get mad at you. But you are going to finish well in the ministry.” This was based on a memory he shared from a young couple who were initially annoyed that he encouraged them to share Christ with their child instead of having him, as the pastor.

When pastors do for people what God has called the people to do, everyone gets hurt and the mission of God is hindered.  Tweet Quote

He continues, “Don’t keep the customers happy, make sure the co-laborers are equipped… We do not need more shopkeeper pastors who are trying to keep happy congregations of customers! Customers drain. But instead… God has called us to equip God’s people for the works of ministry to the building up the body of Christ.”

Stetzer concludes with a warning, “What they all would have learned is that they cannot talk to 8-year-olds about the Gospel. The pastor has to do it. And when pastors do for people what God has called the people to do, everyone gets hurt and the mission of God is hindered.”
